home sweet home
i woke up early and went to the internet. around 9AM, dee anxiously reminded me that we had to pack our stuff and take a shower. i know my way around hurrying for the airport. i do it a lot for my job. dee hates hurrying so i have to be reminded to not stress her out.
the road to san jose
we woke up early, packed and headed to the bus station, which was more like a bus stand where we bought tickets (6 dollars) for a seat on the bus to san jose. we were hoping that we would get the same fantastic bus we rode in on. but when the hunk of junk pulled up, our hopes were shot. dee even went over to ask if that was the bus. it was. i should have taken a photo of it, but i didn’t. the camera would not appear for the rest of the trip, as you can tell from the photo gallery.
100 feet underwater
finally, some scuba diving! i was anticipating this ever since we came to Costa Rica. we rushed to breakfast so we wouldn’t be late to the departure time of 8:30AM. we got there with a few minutes to spare. whew! but there was no need to rush cause 1. this is a laid back village where a costa rica minute lasts about 3 minutes, and 2. a couple called in last minute and ask to join so we had to wait 30 minutes for them to arrive.
on our own
john’s cab to the airport dropped us off at the san jose bus terminal. we said our goodbyes to john. it was the end of the group trip for us, and we were on our own. we planned to take a bus to the caribbean side to a place the good book says is the most happening place on the caribbean side with good music, laid back atmosphere and good food. it also had a diving outfit. the place was called puerto viejo.
shiny discoball
today was our return trip to san jose via the local bus. the tix were about six dollars and the bus left the terminal at 12:30, so we had some time to kill. we decide to head back to cafe milagro and have breakfast. we had another bee encounter that drove us inside. while eating breakfast, i spotted another misspelling on a huge advertisement. come on! you spend thousands of dollars to get the thing printed or whatever, pasted to a billboard and pay for the space. the least you can do is double check the spelling.
We returned to the hotel to pack and headed to the bus terminal.
Meeting D.A.D.
i hate sunburn. it takes the energy right outta ya. shoulders seem to be the favorite spot of burning, which sucks cause that’s what i primarily use to carry gear around.
it’s saturday and our clothes stink. so i agree to go do laundry in exchange for some internet time while dee and john go have coffee and breakfast at Cafe Milagro in Manual Antonio (MA). kind of funny/concidental since i do laundry ever saturday in NYC and here i am in Costa Rica doing laundry on saturday. i think i may have deep connections to my habits than i realize.
america’s next top model
Our first day at the beach, aka quepos, started with a lazy early rise to overcast skies. It had poured all day yesterday and we had our fingers crossed the rain would not show its wet face today.
we packed our bags with beach gear and headed to the bus stop to take the bus to Manual Antonio (MA). A heavyset tico was waiting with us. we made light conversation, and he lifted our spirits by mentioning it is going to be a nice day. we were skeptical but since he lived there, he would know best. turned out he was right. we had a great time a the beach. what a croc!
after the “tours galore” post, the next day was the journey from monteverde to quepos on the pacific coast side of costa rica. from the “today is the best day ever” post, you can already get a sense of how yucky the day was. i think i left out how rocky and bumpy the roads where going down the mountain. there were a few times where i was bumped out of my seat and holding the oh shit handle bar.
tours galore
the next day in monteverde we dragged ourselves out of bed to a morning greeting us with sore muscles and a nice breakfast. it was around 6am and it was already light outside. the sun rises around 5 and sets around 6. this place gets 13 hours of sunlight!
today is the best day ever!
a deviation from the post about each day. i wanna share something with ya that is probably the funniest and most ongoing inside joke we are sharing. i will not name names but while we were on the cloud forest hike, we were very lucky in spotting the quetzal, baby birds, a viper, and many other creatures that the guide said we were very lucky to see. it also didn’t rain while we were hiking around.
so we heard this woman in our group say to her friend, today is the best day ever. this woman is enthusiastic about everything and always so cheery. she drove dee crazy when dee was suffering on the rappelling trip cause she was always laughing and smiling and asking dee do you like it now?
