unemployment
i have a rare opportunity to do whatever i want for a week. i left huron and i start deloitte in a week on december 15th. the plan is to be a tourist in nyc. i have lived here 3 years and i have yet to step into the NY main library branch at bryant park, check out a sample sale, ride the staten island ferry, visit the bronx, explore harlem, check out some of the other lesser known museums, and other odds and ends.
so, i started the week of with a slow start. monday was sleep in until noon and roll out of bed at 4 in the afternoon. it was great. in those four hours, i paid my bills, chatted with friends, wrote emails and upgraded the website’s software. perhaps i should stay in bed more often.
tuesday, today, was fun. went to the gym, met karen for lunch, and then i went to the ny main public library branch at bryant park. the library is more than a library, it is a museum. most of it is marble with some amazing paintings and woodwork. there was an exhibit featuring a place called yaddo. it is in saratoga springs, ny and it is a sanctuary for artists and writers. most of the exhibit featured books of famous authors who wrote the books while at yaddo.
afterwards, i met john for coffee and then walked around midtown. went to the time warner building at columbus circle to check out the decorations. then walked to the plaza which is across from the famous apple cube building. then down fifth ave to check out the different window displays and decorations. rockfeller center was packed with tourists. nothing like a good push and shove to make you feel like you are in new york city.
walked down 6th ave to bryant park where the empire state building loomed overhead and to check out the skating rink. then hopped on the 7 train to head home. (photos follow the places above in order)
tomorrow is museum day cause it will be raining the entire day. unemployment rocks!
